Avoid the Money Pit: Planning & Managing Your Project

Effective planning and management are key considerations prior to undertaking a renovation or rehabilitation project. This course will be led by James Burton, MAIBC, Birmingham & Wood Architects and guest Jake Fry of Smallworks. It will focus on locally-based case studies and it will bring together principles and practices which strive for cost-effective, efficient and creative renovation and rehabilitation projects. The day will include a tour of completed projects in Strathcona. Lunch included.

• Different combinations of insulating materials
• The role that insulating materials play in airtightness, vapour diffusion control, moisture control, and energy rating
• Building details that facilitate the proposed performance changes, and
• The relative impact on construction costs.

Public Review of the 2011 BC Building Code Recommended Variations
Your are invited to participate in the public review for the 2011 BC Building Code. This public review focuses on recommended variations from the model 2010 National Building Code.
The purpose of this public review is to gather feedback on 14 variations that we are recommending. The feedback you provide will be considered in the development of the 2011 BC Building Code expected to take effect in the fall of 2011.
The opportunity to participate in the public review will continue from November 9, 2010 until December 21, 2010.
The online public review is hosted through the Building and Safety Standards Branch website and may be accessed through the following link:
